ARTIST NOTES: Since the 15th century most of the great masters have painted still-life and I found it equally exciting and stimulating.I did a small tonal sketch for the design and moved the items until I am happy with the arrangement. Then line sketch onto canvas with thin paint of burnt sienna paying attention to scale and design.Thin washes the objects covering the canvas .Modelled tray with reflections, shadows and highlights. I painted cast shadow prussian blue on the left side of tray. Modelling of brass jugs, bowl were done in raw umber, cadmium yellow, burnt sienna and umber for the dark areas. The highlights in white and lemon yellow.I also added orange reflecting in the brass. Porcelain vase in ultramarine blue, touches of violet and white highlights. There were different colours reflecting in the plate. Red,blue, brown and dioxaline violet were used in the onion. At different stages of the painting I checked the the different shapes and made adjustment as needed. The dark blue background was also painted in the shadows of the objects to create unity and gradually blended in the white table cloth. Those creases in the cloth led the eyes to the items.
