ARTIST NOTES: I admire the Mexican Artist Frida Kahlo for not only her talent but for the strength, resilience and passion she displayed whilst enduring the many painful episodes of her relatively short life. In this painting, I have tried to capture her in a pensive mood. The painting in the background is taken from a self portrait that her husband Diego painted around 1930. The words penned behind it are those of a love letter from Frida to him. Although described by her family as 'the elephant and the dove', their love story remained special.

Originally I had wanted to make this a window looking out to her 'Blue House' courtyard (her birthplace, childhood residence and place of death); however as the painting progressed I instead chose to use the blue as the background wall colour.

'Contemplating Frida' is my tribute to this wonderful artist, feminist, revolutionist and (most of all) lover.

Custom Pet Portraits

Following 20 years employed within a senior management role as the Human Resoures Manager,

I chose to exchange a corporate lifestyle for one that more aligned with my passion - ART.

I have always enjoyed art however my job was all consuming and left little time to pursue a lifestyle that I loved.  Several years ago I set up a studio in my Rowville backyard and am delighted that deadlines, meetings, conferences, international travel and office 'politics' have now been replaced by artistic inspirations in my own peaceful haven (accompanied by my beautiful apricot poodle, Frida).

Prior to workinng from my home studio, I created custom jewellery for several bespoke shops and individual customers; additionally a womens fashionware boutique commissioned me to design and print designs on their speciality garments.  I loved doing this but my heart was in art not 'craft'.

I have completed corses in life drawing, watercolours, acrylics, mixed media

and pastels however for the most part I gravitate to working with acrylics.

Artists who inspire me are Frida Kahlo (love her colours, passion and insight)

and Vincent Van Gogh (again, the colours and passion).

Subjects that inspire me are dogs!  I have completed numerous commissions for my dog art with many happy (and repeat) customers.

I continue to evolve as I push myself to pursue creativity in subject matter, orignality and colour.
