ARTIST NOTES: Boundlessness

This work relates to a different way of perceiving the world.

The way most people experience themselves in the world is as an observer who sees the world as separate from themselves. There seems to be a boundary between the one that is seeing and that which is seen.

This image, which forms a part of a larger body of work, was created during a retreat in the desert where the artist inquired into the reality of this boundary. A ‘Zero-Image 2000’ Pinhole roll film camera was used to capture these images. In describing his experience, he says:

I found at times that the boundaries between ‘self’ and the ‘world’ softened and disappeared. The experience is one of opening up into the vastness of space while feeling gently held by the ground and earth. My heart melted with the heartbeat of the living presence of the luminous landscape. A very humbling experience.

This image is an expression of that experience. It is also an invitation…

An invitation to enter in
to your own heart
An invitation to be touched
by the mystery
that we are all a part of
